About the Instructor:
Known for her soulful and personal approach to portraiture, Cheryl Jacobs has the unusual ability to bring out the intensity in her subjects, young and old. Her masterful use of B&W film and natural light give her prints a depth uncommon in today's digital world. Her distinctive style of fine art portraiture is instantly recognizable.
Above all, Cheryl values the opportunity to form bonds with those she photographs, believing that the portrait is simply a side effect of a strong human connection. That belief is the key to her ongoing success, which now extends to commercial and editorial work, writing, and numerous fine art projects. Her unusual printing techniques and teaching methods have been spotlighted by Kodak's ProPass Magazine, and her workshops have received rave reviews worldwide.
What exactly is a custom workshop?
It's whatever you want it to be! Think of it as "rent-a-mentor" for specifically the areas you most need help with, for example:
- Working with natural light
- Working with children
- Nailing your exposures in difficult lighting situations
- Finding your style
- Creative marketing and wordsmithing
- Working with film / darkroom
- Interpreting the print
- Getting inspired
- Working on location
- Or whatever else you can think of!
What's the benefit of a custom workshop?
These workshops are very small (no more than 5 - 7 participants in most cases) which allows MUCH more attention to be given to the specific needs of the attendees. I don't want you to go home with unanswered questions! No more being bored through days of information you already know and / or don't care about. Curriculum will be designed based on feedback from those attending.
Where will the workshops be held?
That's your call! We'll hold the workshop at whatever venue the registrants decide upon. Anything goes: private homes, hotels, churches, community centers, on the beach, whatever works for you. Just tell me where to meet you, and I'll see you there.
How much will the workshops cost?
Tuition will be determined based on travel expenses, but will frequently be less than the average cost of our previous workshops. Because the registrants themselves will provide the venue, they're really in control of how much they spend.
